Bug Light: The Whole Story
In 1990, Richard developed an idea based on modular construction for the rebuilding of Bug Light after it was destroyed in 1963. The idea was to build the lighthouse on main land in three separate sections then transport it to Long Island Bar in Greenport. In August of 1990, construction began and on September 5th, the new lighthouse was taken to its foundation by barges and reactivated.
As current Director of East End Lighthouse, plans are in the works for rebuilding another Long Island Lighthouse, as the Coast Guard is turning over a few more historical treasures to the association.
